Don't worry, be happy

"Don't worry, Be happy"

Wise words from American singer-songwriter, Bobby McFerrin.

With the windows open, a cool breeze blowing in, and this happy little tune coming through the speakers, all feels right with the world. That's not always the case though - especially when unexpected challenges arise while traveling.

For our first trip to Europe, I surprised Todd with tickets to the Download Heavy Metal Music Festival in Paris on our way to meet family in Helsinki. He'd always wanted to see Ozzy Osborne live and this was going to be it. Or was it...?

After a 24-hour delay to our flight out of San Francisco, we landed in Paris exhausted and too late to attend the concert. We could have wallowed in self-pity (and to be honest, we did for a hot minute), but thanks to a gentle nudge from the quirky concierge at our hotel, we wandered out and embraced the chance to be in this beautiful place.

As it turned out, we had 24 hours in Paris and we made the most of it!

The moral of this story?

Things may not always go exactly as we plan, but do your best to be flexible while traveling. Sometimes when we get thrown a curve ball, there's something even better waiting around the corner.

Soooo... Don't worry... Be happy. :)

Hello, Reader! We made it to the start of another week. I hope you're feeling rested and ready to take on whatever this week has in store. We'll be working (a lot) this week, so if that's your plan, too... Hey, at least we're in it together! To brighten your day, here's a hello from Sharpie: Sharpie wants to know... Is an Alaska cruise on your bucket list? Whether your goal is to visit all 50 states and Alaska is still on your "to go someday" list... Or you've thought about taking a cruise...

If you don't know where you want to go...How do you know where to start? I'm glad you asked. :) Start at the beginning... Ask yourself these questions: How much time do I have? What's my budget? What kind of experience do I want (e.g., relaxing at the beach, adventurous hike, the lights and sounds of a city)? And then, ask around... Maybe talk to your friends or family members who have been to some cool spots. Or ask everyone's all-knowing friend, Google. For example: "I want to go on a road...

A step back in time on Mackinac Island Bucket List travel: Making dreams come true One of my favorite parts of traveling is the planning. I love to dream about new places, read about other wanderers' adventures, then start planning my own. But for some people I know, the planning is the worst part. They don't know where to start, so inevitably, they just don't. And if you don't start, you don't go. That's where a Bucket List comes in handy... A couple summers ago, my sister-in-law told me it...
