Camping with a twist (not what you expect)

Luxury Tents and Unexpected Adventures

Isn’t it funny how travel inspiration finds us in unexpected ways?

Our latest blog post is all about Glamping on the Nile, and this past weekend I found myself doing something surprisingly similar—right here close to home.

One adventure led me to the banks of the world’s longest river; the other, to a quiet lake just a short drive away. Both reminded me that “camping” can come with some very welcome upgrades.

✨ My Luxury Tent on the Nile

My first stop on safari last month was Chobe Safari Lodge in Uganda. When our group was booking, I had a choice: a room in the main lodge or “one of the tents.” Without hesitation (and without looking it up), I chose the tent—because, well… adventure!

When I arrived, I was speechless. This “tent” was more like a luxury cabin, with:

  • A front porch overlooking the Nile River
  • A plush bed wrapped in mosquito netting
  • A cozy sitting area and private bathroom
  • Even air conditioning (yes, in a tent!)

It was one of those moments when travel dreams meet reality—and reality wins.

🏕 Birthday Weekend Glamping at Home

Fast forward to Todd’s birthday this weekend. We had concert tickets at our favorite local venue, and a friend suggested we skip the drive home and stay at Mystic Waters Campground nearby.

The rustic cabin we booked had a lakefront view—and, as a fun surprise, the “shuttle” to the concert turned out to be a limo van. We swam in the lake, enjoyed the music, then grilled BBQ burgers under the moonlight with cicadas humming in the background. The next morning, we lingered over coffee (from the onsite coffee truck), soaking in that last bit of peaceful lake time.

🌍 Luxury Tents Everywhere

Curious, I searched luxury tents” in the U.S. on Booking.com—and found more than 200 options! Think:

Camping might not be for everyone—and neither is a safari in Uganda—but there’s a whole world of creative stays waiting to be discovered.

If you’ve ever stayed in a luxury tent (or want to), hit reply and tell me about it. You might just inspire our next wandering destination.

Until next week—wishing you luxury dreams and exotic adventures,
